Safety & Trust

Trade smart. Trade legal.

Montana Gun Market is built for honest transactions. These guidelines keep you and everyone else safe.

Safety tips

Meet in public places

Choose well-lit public locations. Many local gun shops and FFLs welcome buyer/seller meetups.

Verify the buyer or seller

Check ratings, review history, and confirm identity before finalizing any transaction.

Follow all laws

Comply with federal, Montana state, and local firearms laws. When in doubt, transfer through an FFL.

Protect your info

Never share bank credentials, social security numbers, or ID scans over chat.

Bring a friend

For high-value trades, bring someone with you. Trust your gut and walk away if anything feels off.

Report suspicious activity

If a listing or message feels wrong, report it. We review every report.

FFL Transfers

How FFL transfers work

A Federal Firearms License holder is a licensed dealer who can legally receive, hold, and transfer firearms. Using an FFL keeps transfers compliant, especially across county or state lines.

  1. 1
    Find a local FFL

Both buyer and seller pick an FFL dealer they trust. Many charge $25–$50 per transfer.

  2. 2
Ship or hand off to the FFL

The seller ships or delivers the firearm directly to the receiving FFL.

  3. 3
    Buyer completes Form 4473

At pickup, the buyer completes ATF Form 4473 and passes a NICS background check.

  4. 4
    Take it home

Once approved, the buyer takes possession. All records stay with the FFL for compliance.
